Why doesn't the military upgrade to the Glock 17?
I know the military is kind of got their mind set on the 9mm round otherwise I would have asked why not the Glock 22. I think from the standpoint of accuracy, reliability, and soldier friendliness the Glock 17 would be superior. Why are they so hooked on the hunk of metal Beretta??

You got to remember the military is like any other branch of the government when it comes to certain types of spending. It all comes down to the lowest bidder on contracts. And it's not that they are "hooked on a hunk of metal". The Beretta won the contract way back when based on cost factors and how well it performed against the other firearms that were fighting for the contract. Since then the military has seen no reason to replace it and spend a ton of money in the process when what they have now is doing the job okay enough as it is.

And till the military puts out a new bid request for a replacement for the Beretta nothings going to change.

Hey there. I won't knock ya for eating "canned" stuff as I do it all the time. I'm at Ft. Hood BTW anotehr military town. Anyhow try this:

Cook some pasta (about a cup of whatever pasta you have).

To a skillet add about 1/4 cup olive oil if you have it (if not use a little less of vegetable oil) and saute the lima beans (rinsed and drained).

Season with a couple cloves of garlic or garlic salt and other spices you may have on hand.

Mix all together and sprinkle with parmesan cheese, even if it's a packet. LOL.

How many people in the military are loud and obnoxious?
I know there's a time to be loud and motivated, formation running yelling out cadences, all that hooah bullcrap, but by nature I am a fairly reserved and quiet person. Some people would call me a bookworm, though I don't read too many books. I keep a small close-knit group of social friends and am generally nice and very kind.

But when I was at the MEPS doing all my paperwork and physicals to become enlisted in the Army, I met a bunch of people that were just plain-out loud and obnoxious, and I even had to bunk with one of these girls overnight, because we did testing one day, then went to a hotel to sleep, then came back early in the morning to do all our medical.

It's not that I didn't like the girl, she was pleasant, but OMG, she would talk nonstop, and about stupid stuff too, most of the time stupid girly stuff like, "omg, did you see that guy that is joining the [insert branch here], he's such a hunk," and all sorts of other crap like that. What's wrong with these girls!?

Yea, there are a bunch of loud and obnoxious a.holes in the military, just like some that responded here. These retards don't have a brain and that is why they are always loud and stupid.

I saw the preview for this movie on the "Son of Rambow" DVD, but I can't remember the name. It was in a documentary style movie about these high schoolers. The characters I remember are: the geek (guy) the rebel girl who vows not to fall in love, but does with the hunk, and the basketball guy who needs a basketball scholarship to go to college, or it's the military for him. Need some help coming up with a dystopian future style costume?
So I'm working on a full get up for an authority person (Police, government, soldier, whatever - nothing specific). So far I want to have a gas mask as part of the look - currently I have this style gas mask:

But my inspiration of sorts is the Combine from Half Life 2 (Among others):

I like the style gas mask they have, I'm not sure if there is such a thing as a gas mask that is just styled to have a look and not actually function as a gas mask - that is what I'm preferring but a working gas mask would work too. Just something that gives that dystopian future "creepy" factor.

For the shirt/jacket I'm not sure. At first I was thinking of a black trenchcoat (Made of rubber or something similar? Leather doesn't seem like it would be correct in dystopian future society but I suppose it might - could be expensive though) but I'm not sure what I'd wear under the trenchcoat. As far as the trenchcoat as well - I have no idea where to find one that looks "dystopian", all the ones I keep finding look too dressy and wouldn't fit the look. This one is better but I want it to not be patches or anything - I want a smooth leather trenchcoat:

That is just an action figure but something like a military get up with pockets and stuff all over could work - but I'm not sure it would go with the look I want. I like the idea of a baton being my weapon and it seems like a soldier wouldn't have a baton but rather a gun that I lack.

For the pants - I'm not sure either. Some kind of solid black pants I'd imagine but what kind? Cargo pants seem like they'd look too casual but I'm not sure if you can get solid black military style pants and how well they'd match the rest.

For the shoes I figured some big aggressive looking lace up boots would be just right. Apparently these riot boots look suitable:

Although they're made by Demonia - which looks like a goth/punk company that makes these things specifically for that kind of look which seems silly - what kind of boots do real riot officers wear? Maybe some plastic riot armor would add to the look as well? I'm thinking of this outfit in the sense that this person would be in an area of pollution wearing the mask and controlling riots from the lower class who regularly break into unruly riot and such (If that helps build a picture for the look of the outfit I'm trying to think up). Think cold, ruthless, uncaring - a stereotype of dystopian police/military and their attitude towards civilians as lesser sub-humanoids or some such abusing their power.

Any ideas for things to help with this look? I currently only have the gas mask but even that could be up for change. I know someone out there knows where to find this stuff and would appreciate the help!

How about just getting a dark drab cloth trenchcoat and stencilling pained numbers and codes on it (like the soldiers are numbered). And you could stencil on insignia or abbreviation for some organization.

What is something safe, that carries like it were a gun?
For getting in shape before joining the army, what would be a good thing to carry while power-walking, that would shoulder like an M4 but not get you arrested in public? I figure i've gotta get the muscles trained to not need my arms swinging, just like it would be in the military (you keep the gun shouldered all the time). I asked this same question in "Military" so i figured maybe i'd get more diverse answers by asking it here as well, since hunters would be familiar with guns, and things shaped like guns. Right now, "Umbrella" comes to mind. Airsoft is unacceptable, and carving a hunk of wood to look like one would probably be too close as well, unless painted orange.

The M4 assault carbine only weighs about six pounds loaded. This is light enough that pretty much any object long enough to be shouldered will serve your purposes -- a walking-stick, a sturdy wooden dowel, a long umbrella or even a yardstick. For something a little less visible, you could carry a small dumbbell in your hand and keep it against your body as if you were holding the butt of a rifle; this will strengthen your arm and keep it from swinging.

Realistically, working generally on your strength and endurance is more important right now than drilling with a dummy gun. If you are in basically good shape going in, you will be able to handle anything the Army asks you to do. And once you join, you will get PLENTY of practice marching with an actual rifle!
